Counter Side Awakened Employees

You will find here the list of all Awakened Employees in the game, their reviews and the order you should get them as a new player.

ForewordLast updated: 03 May, 2022

A new player might be in most cases overwhelmed with the amount of Awakened Employees in the game and while his fingers will itch to pull on the currently available Awakened banner, in most cases, it's better to wait. While the majority of the awakened employees is usable, some are way better than others and some are only good in certain game modes.

This guide will review all currently available Awakened employees in the game and score them based on their performance in the KR region. This means the ratings on this page might be different from the tier list and the employee page, because they show SEA meta. Here are the three areas:

  • Early PVE - how good the employee is for a new player that has to progress through the story, climb the early floors in Shadow Palace and clear event stages,
  • Endgame PVE - how good the employee is at endgame content, like Dive 50, Floor 5 of Shadow Palace, Danger Close and the recently released Relic Dungeons,
  • PVP - how good the employee is in the Gauntlet in the current KR meta (why KR and not SEA? Because a lot of players think long term and pulling for an employee that won't be good in the long run is bad).

The information found in this guide was gathered with the help of current KR server players and people from the game's discord. Especially I would like to thank Yonagi, Bonk and Brah for their help. The guide will be updated each time a huge meta shift happens or a new Awakened employee is released in the KR region.

How to get them

Unlike normal employees, you can't pull Awakened employees using the Employee Contracts (also known as Blue Tickets) as they require a separate currency known as Classified Contracts (also known as Black Tickets).

Black Tickets are much rarer than their Blue counterpart and you can only get a limited amount of them every month:

  • 120 from Daily missions,
  • 80 from Weekly missions,
  • 40 from Monthly attendance,
  • 80 from Gauntlet shop,
  • 45 from Guild Coop,
  • 20 from New Awakened release event,
  • 440-880 from the weekly Black Ticket pack,
  • 60 from premium Battle Pass,

Overall each month you can earn around 1400 Black Tickets, which equals to 70 pulls (you need 20 Black Tickets to do one pull). Still, the number doesn't include any events or calendars that often also give some Black Tickets.

Considering that you need 150 pulls to pity on a banner, you can get an awakened employee roughly every 2.5 months, but only if you're unlucky and need to reach pity every time. On an average, you need around 80 pulls per banner. Still, RNG is RNG as in every game.

Thanks to Ark for providing the numbers!

PVP

The first awakened employee that was added to the game. She's a wall. The strongest, sturdiest, and most annoying wall in the game. Sadly, her biggest problem is that she's nothing else besides being a wall. While other Defenders help the team in other ways besides staying alive and keeping the backline safe, Awakened Hilde is too selfish to care about them and keeps charging forward - to her death in most cases in Ranked PVP.

After her recent buff, she became much stronger in PVE as she is basically immortal after casting her ult. In PVP she's actually usable now at higher ELO, but it all depends on the bans and ups for that week. Still, her BIS set for PVP is now CDR to make her reach the ult faster.

Early PVE - A

The problem is, just a wall isn't what new players need. Sure, while she will do the job and stay alive, other Awakened employees not only can do the same, but they can also deal damage simultaneously.

Endgame PVE - S

Recently her PVE stock rose - not only is she commonly used in Dive 45-50 (and she's the core of the only Dive 50 auto team), but in the recently released Relic Dungeons, she can be used in 2 out of the 3 dungeons.

PVP - A

In PVP, while she's pretty popular in lower elo, the higher you climb, the less useful she becomes even after the buff. While there are some niche teams that use her now, she's still not good enough to be meta.

Lee Jisoo is a freebie awakened character (but her Bingo was ran only once, like a month after the SEA server was released) that has both outdated stats and skill set. Recently she was buffed and while not being a meta employee, she's actually usable now.

Early PVE - B

While you can use her and she will fill the role of a debuffer/off tank hybrid, there's honestly no need for that. There are cheaper SSR or even SR Defenders that tank better and debuffers are also pretty common.

Endgame PVE - B

Her battlefield-wide healing debuff sometimes makes her useful in some event stages.

PVP - B

She can be used while she's upped (yes, she's the only awakened unit that was upped in ranked pvp), but otherwise she's benched.

Awakened Yoo Mina also know as the human bomb. Sadly, her kit didn't age well and some time after her release the bomb turned into a firecracker. But recently she was buffed and it fixed her biggest issues - survivability - but also added some new things to her kit, like Seal Skill and Interrupt which made her stronger in PVE and meta in PVP.

With ASPD or Spectral Set blaze, she can have permanent uptime on Perfect Evasion in PVE, but in PVP there will be short windows where it will fall down due to all the CC flying around there. Also it's a buff, so Yen Xing and others can remove it.

Early PVE - A

After the buff, you don't have to worry about her dying randomly, as she can keep herself alive pretty well with Perfect Evasion. Seal Skill also helps against normal monsters (bosses can't be Sealed) and you can use her on auto-battle pretty well.

Endgame PVE - A

Currently she's only being used in two areas of the game - Raids (and Guild Raids) and in Danger Close, but only against some of the bosses there..

PVP - SS

After the buff, she actually snaked her way back into meta. Perfect Evasion and Skill Seal helps her survive the deploy and actually kill something. And what's funny is that she can offtank pretty well now with the Perfect Evasion buff she gets after doing an Enhanced attack.

Currently she's being used as a backline killer and as finisher in siege teams.

PVP

ALSY is the first awakened air employee that was added to the game and at the same time she's also an anti-air specialist. Guess she doesn't like to share the space with others. Still, being the best anti-air employee in the game isn't the only thing good about her.

First of all, she's a 5 cost awakened employee, meaning it's easier to fit her in a team, but she's also a great buffer that makes Counter Rangers in your team way way stronger by buffing their Skill Haste. She has the strongest ETB passive in the game; not only it hits the whole battlefield, but it can one-shot most of the flying units like Rosalia/Lyudmila.

Early PVE - S

While she's great at killing other air units, her damage is also good against normal ones. This makes her great at helping a new player progress through the Story and also to clear the most annoying floor in Shadow Palace where air units have much easier time dealing with Shadow Xiao and Shadow Rivet (aka the murder wabbit). In Guild Coop, she's also the best employee to solo cover the left side of the worm and defend the ship.

Endgame PVE - SS

ALSY is a great pick for various events and Challenges where the developers like to place annoying air units. She's also good in Dive 45-50 and has a prime spot in Edel stage in Relic Dungeon because similar to Shadow Palace floor 3, Air units shine there and allow you to cheese it.

PVP - SSS

While other awakened employees have their ups and downs and sometimes fall out of meta, ALSY is always up there with the best. Mainly due to her lower cost which allows her to be used in a variety of compositions, and also whenever she isn't banned, using air units is risky because a wild ALSY might appear and ruin someone's day.

PVP

Awakened Yuna is classified as a Striker who in reality is a tank/damage dealer/summoner/debuffer/dispeller hybrid. Honestly, they packed so much in her kit, you could split it between two or three other employees and they would be considered good on their own.

Oh, and let's not forget about Rayleigh - the annoying bird deserves a SS rating across the board. Not only his damage is great, but he also harasses the backline with his attack and debuffs.

Early PVE - SSS

If you're a new player and there's a Yuna banner up at the time, use every Black Ticket you have to try to get her. She's basically a one-man army that doesn't even need a tank in front of her because she will heal up to full after using her skills. Also, the aura that deals %HP damage to anyone close to her gets stronger as enemies gain more level because their HP pool gets massively inflated later in the game and she will just melt them slowly over time. She's the best awakened employee to carry you through Shadow Palace allowing you to gear your units faster.

Endgame PVE - S

The last two new endgame game modes that were released in KR - Dive 50 and Relic Dungeons - are designed in such way that Yuna doesn't really shine there. Because she stays at the frontlines right behind tha tank, the AOE damage of the bosses usually one shots her so her selfhealing doesn't even have a chance to kick in and save her. While she's still great in Challenge Modes and Events, there she just doesn't work that well.

PVP - S

For a long time, she and her bird were super annoying in PVP, but then she dropped out of the meta and currently she's barely used in higher elo.

PVP

Awakened Na Yubin is an evasion-based tank that constantly pushes forward and tries to murder the backline, not giving his enemies any break, and if they try to use barriers as a form of healing, he will turn their power against them.

Overall he has the highest evasion among all Defenders and it takes quite a while to kill him, but only if he's geared and has healers behind him. He requires a perfect HuMaGorGor set (Hummingbird weapon, Maze Armor, Gordias accessories with Melee DMG RES+Ground DMG RES) to shine - if you will use him with sub-par gear, even SSR defenders will do a better job.

Early PVE - B

While you can use him as your tank in story and other early game content, he will perform there on similar level to SSR defender like Lee Yumi or Serapel. So paying 6 cost is not really worth it there, but if you he's your only tank, you can use him.

Endgame PVE - S

Recently, a lot of the Challenges and event stages make use of his unique kit. Also, he is commonly used as a support unit in Dive 50 and he's quite good in the Relic Dungeon Edel stage.

PVP - SS

For the majority of the time, he was considered a pure PVP employee because his kit revolves around pushing forward, refluxing enemy shields, and countering Towers. While he lost the King of PVP status, currently, he's getting used commonly again in the KR meta - mainly as Nest Keeper Xiao counter who is now dominating PVP.

PVP

Awakened Seo Yoon is a top-tier damage dealer that dominates the battlefield by sheer presence. Her gimmick is that she can summon rifles that are Snipers while she is Ranger. So you basically get two different damage dealers in one.

This makes her a force of nature in PVE because due to being two different type units in one, she can abuse the Role Advantage bonus. Furthermore, she's quite hard to kill thanks to her rifles - they take any damage instead of her - and jumping backward away from the action when her HP falls below a certain threshold.

Early PVE - SS

In the early game just deploying ASY behind a tank is enough to safely clear most stages in story mode as she will kill everything that tries to harm her. Together with Awakened Yuna, she forms a duo that can easily clear the whole Shadow Palace, and in Raids and Guild Coop she often tops the damage meters.

Endgame PVE - S

While she is often used as a support employee in Dive 50, there's no place for her in Relic Dungeons. While you can use her there in one of the three endgame Dungeons, if she's your only awakened unit, she's useless in the other two.

PVP - S

In PVP, while her damage is also scary, she's feared because of her ability to turn healing skills used by enemies against themselves. She places a debuff on any enemy hit by her special and whenever they are healed they got damaged instead. And since healers are a staple of any team, she is always is a problem that's hard to counter currently in SEA Meta.

In the KR Region she has fallen quite a lot because of Spira that can follow her when she jumps back to safety and murders her, and because of Replacer King who instantly wipes her Rifles, leaving her defenseless. While she is commonly used in lower tiers, in high elo she only comes back into the meta when most other awakened units are banned.

PVP

Replacer King is the first and only awakened character that was available in the Battle Pass. While Replacer King has one of the best designs in the game, he sucked for a very long time and was considered a meme character. But after his buff and the release of MK2 ship he became meta because his passive now allows him to punch the backline to death and especially the pesky snipers die instantly to him.

It's worth noting that while his passive states that he doesn't get the buff from Mechs dying, it's false. While a Replacer unit isn't spawned from a Mech, the passive is still applied to him and because of that you can even use Kyle's walls to proc the passive, which becomes super useful in both PVE and PVP.

Early PVE - S

While in theory, his ability to summon Replacers from dead allies bodies doesn't sound that useful in PVE because you want the opposite there - to keep everyone alive so they can deal damage - he actually is quite decent in PVE. Still, you have to remember he is more of a damage dealer than a tank. Also, he's commonly used in Shadow Palace and auto teams in Danger Close so if you're lazy and just want to get a good score, he's a great pick.

Endgame PVE - A

Sadly his not that useful both in Dive 50 and Relic Dungeons. While you can use him there, there are simply better choices.

PVP - SSS

By many, he is considered the new King of PVP that dethroned Na Yubin. His basic attack damage isn't reduced anymore when he is under the effect of his passive, so he can easily kill snipers even if he stays at his own ship. Still, he is hard-countered by buff removers, especially the operator Serina.

He doesn't need the MK2 to shine, because you can use low-cost soldiers that spawn multiple units at once (like Assault Troopers) to proc his passive. Still paired with the ship, he becomes a nightmare to deal with.

Replacer Queen is the best sniper employee in the game who can decimate the enemy team by herself. Her kit looks as if Rosaria and Gaeun had a love child. Not only she gets stronger whenever someone dies, but her CC is super annoying and she can constantly stun enemies thanks to the Skill Haste she gets from the passive.

Early PVE - SS

Because of her cost being lower than most awakened unit, it's easier to fit her in your teams while progressing through the game. Still, unlike A.Yuna or A.Seo Yoon, she's not a solo carry type of character - you need to build a proper team to keep her alive and let her do her thing. But if you do that, oh boy, she will reward you with being the ultimate carry.

Endgame PVE - SSS

Endgame PVE is where she shines. Most players already have fully geared teams and slotting a 72% CDR Replacer Queen into one will turn her into a killing machine. She's one of the best Snipers to bring into Dive 50 and also she's a must-have in the Titan stage in Relic Dungeon. Also if you care about Danger Close, she's BIS against Tyrant Sword and also can be used against other bosses with great results.

PVP - A

As for PVP, in the past, she was a meta pick, but after Replacer King was buffed and Evolved One was released, she's not usable at all. Replacer King easily kills her as she's super squishy and Evolved One easily reaches her with her ult, killing her instantly.

Ministra is widely considered as the most broken awakened employee in the game. She can summon totems that debuff nearby enemies (-33% ATK, ASPD and Skill Haste) making her a nightmare in PVP. When her HP falls below a certain threshold, she summons a Mutated Spira that's even stronger than her normal version (nearly doubled stats and she can attack air units unlike normal Spira).

And let's not forget about the fact that she also can deal stupid amounts of damage - both her special and ultimate have the highest multiplier in the game (usually it's around 200-300%, but in her case it's over 500%).

Early PVE - SSS

Similar to A.Yuna, she's the ultimate carry who can win battles in the early game by herself. In any mode where there are multiple enemies - because someone must die when marked by her to summon a totem - using her drastically lowers the difficulty, because of the debuffs she brings. The only place where she isn't great are Raids and Guild Coop; everywhere else she's a beast.

Endgame PVE - SSS

In endgame PVE, she's a core unit in one of the three teams that can clear Dive 50 and probably her team has the easiest time there. Also in Relic Dungeons, she's commonly used in Titan stage, but also in the Edel stage if you decide to go the ground attack route.

PVP - S

She was the Queen of PVP basically since the day she was released. Lately though her usage has fallen a bit because of Replacer King and Awakened Horizon - both can easily reach the Ministra hiding in the backline and murder her. Still, despite having clear counters now, she's still borderline broken.

Sadly, the top tier pvp auto-team that she was part of is no longer usable in KR region after the recent meta shift.

Amy the Bringer of Whale Tears - that should have been her name. Her confusion ability broke the PVP balance and pushed the KR community to review bomb the game. Still, Nexon quickly responded and she received a rework - while the confusion mechanic was removed, she gained instant death instead which is another broken mechanic, but for sure a lesser evil compared to confusion.

Early PVE - B

Since her power lies in her on-deploy ability, if you use her on auto-battle mode, she will be just another damage dealer. And for 6 cost there are way better employees you can use instead.

Endgame PVE - A

Similar to early game content, she's not that used in the endgame. Her damage is still good though and if you're forced to manual some stages, she will be good addition to the team, but only that.

PVP - SS

After her rework, her rating fell quite a lot, but now after Awakened Mina was buffed and gained Perfect Evasion, she's back in the meta. The Surefire effect on her special allows maker her a perfect counter to Perfect Evasion and because the developers seem to be slapping the buff on a lot of new units, she might become a must pick soon.

Still, keep it in mind that against other enemies, her strength lies in her on-deploy ability, but if you miss it or time her deploy wrong, you've basically wasted 6 cost for nothing.

Evolved One is the first awakened employee that isn't a Counter. She's also the first unit that consumes other units to make herself permanently stronger. With over 130k HP, 2k DEF, and 5% MDL she's really hard to kill, but at the same time her ultimate wipes the screen.

She's the first awakened employee that is farmable. But you need to clear Dive 50 (which is one of the hardest contents in the game) to unlock the ability to get her for free.

Early PVE - C

Because of the passive that prevents her from being healed, it's really hard to use her in PVE. Pure Mech teams without Evolved One do better in PVE than with her.

Endgame PVE - C

Same thing as in the early PVE applies to the endgame.

PVP - SS

In PVP she brought second life to all Mecha teams lovers and she's a super popular pick. What's best about her is that she's really flexible - all you need is some sacrifices to boost her passive and you can pair her with anything and she will work well. As long as she survives to her ult, she will wipe the whole battlefield with her nuke.

In the KR region while she is really strong, she rarely gets banned and it's a running joke in the community that the developers protect her from bans. Still, the issue with her lack of bans is that because she's easy to use, a lot of players play her and this tanks her win rate.

Arhat Shiyoon is a counterattacking monster that can survive quite a lot thanks to the 100% evasion on both his Special and Ultimate. His base stats are pretty crazy: 70k hp, 1.1k def, 840 eva, and 1.2k crit at level 110 ungeared. His Perfect Evasion buff paired with DMG Tolerance makes him one of the tankiest Strikers in the game and only the lack of MDL separates him from the best Defenders.

Also, All his attacks have good range, including the basic attack that easily reaches behind enemy defenders and strikes the squisher rangers/supporters hiding behind them.

Overall Arhat Shiyoon is a strong employee that has exploitable weaknesses and is considered a balanced employee by KR community.

Early PVE - S

He's very similar to A.Yuna and can carry your team in Shadow Palace because there's a lot of Counter type units that can be countered (and skills are the biggest problem in SP5). He's also a good choice for Dives and some Danger Close bosses (like Soli where you often use normal Shiyoon). Still, while he is a good early game carry, A.Yuna and Ministra do it better.

Endgame PVE - SS

He's commonly used in Dive 50 and in two out of the three Relic Dungeons, which makes him a good endgame choice for the tanky frontline spot that messes up with bosses by countering them.

PVP - S

He is strong in PVP, but at the same time, there are multiple ways to counter him. He totally sucks against Evolved One teams and employees who can remove buffs (he's heavily reliant on them to survive). You can also drop a bait employee behind him to force out his counterattack and make his skills attack the other way, saving your team in the process. Against counter teams, he needs someone to peel for him because Ifrit/Millia can melt him with their absurd DPS despite him having great stats and perma-evasion.

Overall he's considered a great employee, but also a balanced one that can be countered.

Awakened Horizon is the second awakened mecha employee added to the game and also the second awakened Air unit. Awakened Lee Soyoeon finally has competition in the air battle! She's also a striker-type employee, which is kinda a bummer because the last awakened employee - Arhat Shiyoon - was also a striker.

Early PVE - SS

In early PVE (especially Shadow Palace) she shines because of the damage she brings. Especially her passive that deals additional damage based on the enemy current HP makes her chunk their HP bars with each strike. It's worth noting that the 30% bonus dmg is applied not only on her basic attacks but also on her Special and Ultimate (both use her swords).

%HP-based abilities are always strong in games where enemies HP inflates into millions, and similar to A.Yuna this makes her great in PVE. Also, After her buff, her survivability increased massively, and even with scuffed gear she will carry every new player through story and other early content, so you won't have to worry about her suddenly dying.

Endgame PVE - SSS

While there are better picks for Dive 50, she shines in Shadow Palace floor 5 and the Relic Dungeons where you need her to clear the Maria stage. Also, she works really well in all Challenges and Events, because the enemies there are high level and she just bonks them to death with her %HP damage.

PVP - SSS

In PVP... Well, she earned the nickname Awakened Woodpecker for a reason. Not only her biggest strength (the %HP passives) was nerfed to 5% in Gauntlet, she also was super squishy and often died without doing anything. But a week later she was buffed and while the buff looked small on paper, it massively changed how she performs.

She's ultra-hard to kill because with her high attack speed, she gains immunity to all damage every 6-7 seconds and this allows her to survive where she shouldn't. Also, her damage is actually great now in Gauntlet , because apparently %HP damage was bugged. It seems that now she's a great counter to ALSY, and the roles reversed - there are videos floating around with Horizon one-shotting ALSY and taking half the HP of the ship at the same time with her special alone.

Together with Replacer King, Awakened Horizon is the current meta employee in PVP.

Early PVE - S

While he can carry you in the story, he's not doing it as good as other, stronger, early game Awakened units like Yuna or ASY.

On the contrary, she's a pretty underwhelming awakened employee that on launch was considered the worst awakened in the game - yes, even Lee Jisoo was ranked higher. Still, she was quickly buffed, but even that wasn't enough to make her good - in most battles in PVP, she won't be able to even reach the middle of the battlefield to cast her ultimate once.

Who should you get

It's hard to answer this question, because every player is at different point of the game and he faces different problems depending on his team, what he currently wants to farm etc.

This is why the order of getting awakened employees I will present below should only be applied to new players, who don't have even one awakened employee yet and struggle to pick who should they get. For other players, please check the reviews and ratings and just pick who you think is best for you right now.

I'm a new player and want to focus on PVE

Awakened Yuna will carry you in the early game and when you will reach harder content, Ministra will support her, allowing you to progress deeper into the endgame.

Then when you start banging your head trying to farm endgame gear in the Relic Dungeons and harder Challenges, Awakened Horizon, Replacer Queen or Awakened Joo Shiyoon will help you there with their specialized kits - check their reviews and pick whoever you think you need more depending on where you're stuck.

I'm a new player and want to focus on PVP

A word of warning first. PVP in Counter Side is really gear and skill focused and even if you have all the best employees, you can easily lose because of gear gap. Especially new players will lack Maze gear that makes huge difference in PVP.

The choices above I think don't require any explanation - those are the current meta pick in the KR region.
